Our two visits to Ikageng have been joyful and convinced us of the good work the Centre is doing. How do we know about Ikageng? Well, we just took a bus into Soweto and got off near Nelson Mandela’s house, that is currently a rather dull museum. We asked around at a restaurant and they told us to walk down the road to the Centre. And so we did.
We are very welcome at the Centre and they show us around. On the premises there are a few sea containers transformed into offices and a storage room for foodstuff. A group of American students comes here each year to do the landscaping and it really looks good.
Ikageng renders a variety of services to the very poor and destitute in Soweto, including vocational (computer) training, an emergency feeding program, medical assistance, and self-help groups. They have been quite successful and have a wide range of international supporters.
They have an open volunteer policy and do welcome spontaneous assistance by people en route, making them an ideal cause for charity travel.

december 5. One thing involved.
In downtown Nairobi there are several coffee places offering wifi. I find one after a quest in which I fail to show patience. I get my stuff done anyway.
This is a variation to an HIV awareness talk for adolescents:
If you sleep with someone, there are two things involved: either you protect yourself, or you don’t
If you protect yourself, you are safe. If you don’t, there are two things involved: either your partner gets mad at you or he/she doesn’t.
If he doesn’t get mad at you, you are safe. If he does, there are two things involved: either he kills you, or he doesn’t.
If he kills you, you are safe. If he doesn’t, there are two things involved: either he takes you to court, or he doesn’t.
If he doesn’t, you are safe. If he does, there are two things involved: either you get frenzied, or you don’t.
If you don’t, you are safe. If you do, there are two things involved: either you get sedated with a pill, or you get sedated with a needle.
If you get sedated with a pill, you are safe. If they use a needle, there are two things involved: either it is HIV infected, or it is clean.
If it is clean, you are safe. If it is HIV infected, there is only one thing involved: YOU ARE GONNA DIE!
